Update on the Kenneth Gladney case

As many loyal viewers of the Glenn Beck Show know one ongoing story that Glenn Beck has been following since the summer involved a black gentleman named Kenneth Gladney.  Like hundreds of thousands of Americans opposed to the radical government takeover of our nation’s health care sytem,Mr. Gladney went to a town-hall meeting this summer hosted by Rep. Russ Carnahan, Missouri Democrat. While passing out “Don’t Tread on Me” flags, he was viciously attacked by Service Employees International Union (SEIU) members. One called him a “nigger.”  Even though the attack was captured on video and is available on YouTube the local and state prosecutors have yet to file charges some 3 months later.

According to the intrepid writers at BigGovernment.com:

The story of Kenneth Gladney may finally be getting somewhere. County Counselor Patricia Redington, after waiting three months, has been forced to come out and defend her office in emails and in an interview with KMOX, a local St Louis radio station.  We’d say it was quick work, but waiting to look into charges of political violence until after healthcare reform comes to a vote seems to be the plan……

Redington is now responding to emails saying she is looking into the events, the investigation is still under review, and her office is interviewing witnesses.  This is one of her responses to a St Louis county resident about the affair.

There were several incidents at this event which required police intervention, and our office is reviewing the police report and has been interviewing various witnesses before making a final decision on what charges may be issued.

…..Redington says there were half a dozen possible criminal incidents at that event and she plans to announce her findings all at the same time. She did not give KMOX a timetable for the announcement. But, according to Redington, the incident, ‘definitely has not been swept under the rug.’”

…….For Redington to tell citizens and reporters the investigation is ongoing is a sign that pressure is getting to her.  If you’re from St Louis, keep it up.  And if you’re the Post Dispatch, anytime you want to pretend to be a real paper, you’re welcome to get involved.  We’ll even give you our notes.

SEIU’s Andy Stern Union Boss or Illegal Lobbyist?

Last night Glenn Beck focused on the ties between Service Employee International Union (SEIU) President Andy Stern and the White House and the resulting effects on public policy.  As the White House Visitor logs released last month make clear, Mr. Stern was the most frequent White House visitor.  Now the great team at BigGovernment.com has raised another angle about the visits.  Could they have constituted federal lobbying subject to the LDA (Lobbying Disclosure Act)?  Moreover, it also appears that the White House hasn’t lived up to the spirit of its claims about limiting the influence of high powered lobbyists.  It seems all anyone has to do to avoid being barred is to just refuse to register as a lobbyist.

During the first calendar quarter of 2009, Mr. Stern went to the White House on 11 separate days, including twice on February 18.  In the second calendar quarter, Mr. Stern visited on 9 days, and twice on April 13 for a total of 10 visits.  Since White House personnel, including the President and Vice President, are considered “covered” officials under LDA, all of Mr. Stern’s communications with them during these 22 visits covering 20 days would constitute “lobbying contacts.”  The time spent at the White House also constitutes “lobbying activity” time which must be captured for determining whether Mr. Stern spent more than 20% of his time during any calendar quarter engaged in lobbying.

Failure to file accurate reports or to register under LDA is a violation of the Act, which provides for civil penalties of up to $200,000 and criminal penalties of up to 5 years in prison.  Reports must be filed electronically with the Clerk of the House and Secretary of the Senate.  Responsibility for enforcement of the Act rests with the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, under 2 U.S.C. 1605.  In addition, the Government Accountability Office is required under the LDA to conduct random audits of filers.

Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) and the Alliance for Worker Freedom (AWF) have formally contacted the office of the US Attorney for the District of Columbia asking for an investigation into whether Mr. Stern has broken the law.  Mr. Stern, it appears the ball is in your court.

Anita’s Dunn’s Parting Shot

Headed out the door, Communications Director Anita Dunn and professed Mao exponent made clear at a recent Bloomberg News Washington Summit that she isn’t done with her high profile attacks on Fox Cable News.

Here’s the Huffington Post’s take:

In a parting shot at Fox News, White House Communications Director Anita Dunn mocked the conservative-leaning network on Friday and laughed off its controversial host Glenn Beck for calling her a Mao enthusiast…….

Approached in the halls outside the forum, the Huffington Post asked Dunn to put Glenn Beck’s recent theatrics into the context of her critiques of Fox News’s coverage. She chuckled. For the past few weeks, Beck has insisted that the outgoing communications director considers Mao Zedong a political hero and has put a red telephone on his set begging for her to call and explain her political dispositions.

“I think it was news to everybody who knows me,” she replied. “You know, most media consultants usually are accused of other things, but that’s not one of them.”

……..Elsewhere in her remarks, Dunn acknowledged that her decision to go after Fox News was not an example of her “going rogue.” White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs and perhaps even the president himself gave her the green light.

ACORN sues Washington

Better than a dog bites man story is ACORN’s lawsuit reported in today’s Washington Times claiming that the efforts by Congress and the White House to end federal funding from going to the community is in fact ” unconstitutional” because it “punishes” ACORN.

ACORN said Congress went too far when it wrote into a stopgap funding bill in October that the organization cannot receive any new money for federal contracts…….

“All this without a hearing and with no judicial adjudication of guilt,” attorneys for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now said in papers filed in federal district court in New York……

ACORN said being singled out amounts to a “bill of attainder,” an ancient legal concept that deems a single person or entity guilty and worthy of punishment by legislation. Bills of attainder areprohibited by Article I of the Constitution……

Lawmakers have rejected the charge, saying neither ACORN nor any other group is entitled to federal money.

Beck Bids Adieu to Anita

After returning from the hospital and convalescence Glenn Beck was true to form and full of excitement.  This morning Matthew Vadum at the NewsReal Blog provides a quick update on the news that Anita Dunn was leaving the White House and Glenn Beck’s response.

Vadum writes:

President Obama’s nasty communications director Anita Dunn, the Mao Zedong lover, is leaving the White House after just a few months of employment. As field marshal in the president’s war against Fox News, which she called “a wing of the Republican Party,” Dunn presided over a government-sanctioned dumbing down of political discourse.

Dunn fancied herself a standup comedian when she unconvincingly claimed she was only joking when she praised Mao by calling the brutal Communist dictator of China “one of the two people that I turn to most.” Hilarious! There have to be 70 million murdered Chinese rolling in the aisles! What a knee-slapper…..

“I’m sure Chairman Mao would appreciate that whole private wealth thing ya got goin’ there,” Glenn Beck said on his TV show today.

Don’t Miss Glenn Beck’s Friday the 13th Show

Gary P. of the Cypress Times (which bills itself as a conservative christian daily news online source) has announced that this week Glenn will have a fairly interesting set of guests — conservative bloggers who are black.

Glenn has had some very positive panels since he has moved his show over to the Fox News Network, and this will be no exception. So make sure you tune in on Friday, set your DVR, and get ready for the left wing loons’ worst nightmare!

This is something I am promoting with great pleasure. It was two weeks ago when I opened an e-mail from Conservative blogger, man about town, and all around good guy Clifton B. Cliff was letting us know he would be appearing as a guest on the Glenn Beck show as part of a panel of prominent Black Conservatives. Of course, as a friend and fellow blogger, I was very excited. I knew this would be must see TV!

Don’t miss it!
